I would just like to point out that although it would be preferable for companies to maintain conversations in the social media sphere within the company, most of the time, this does not happen. It could be because of lack of time, manpower, etc. Would that then mean that the company can just forget about engaging their community through conversations? It shouldn't. Social media engagement, although not a primary requirement for a business to function, is also very beneficial. Thus, in cases where companies are not able to manage their own conversations, this is where outsourcing can come in. It is not the idea of outsourcing that would be an issue. Outsourcing to someone several miles away versus someone else with in your company is still not you. What is vital is exercising proper guidelines and maintaining effective communication to ensure that your social media engagement remains effective. For us (we are an outsourcing company: Infinit-O), the question is not whether you should outsource, but who should be your outsourcing partner. That's just my two cents on that. Kudos!

Re: Thread Show is this weekend!

Thanks for the reminder... can't wait!

Re: Love… it’s all you need (Review)

The show was jaw dropping, full of surprises. I hear you will also be at Tom Ferry's event in La Jolla.

I am deeply involved in the Temecula Valley, Southern California Wine Country. I will be developing several new wineries. I continue to see companies that keep work in-house even though they don't have the skill set to do the job properly, which lowers the ROI. Problem is, if they don't know what's possible, they tend to be satisfied by what they get.

Re: In-house vs Outsourcing a Social Media Presence

Thank you ladies. Outsourcing is def a good way to get a jump on social media, but it needs to be done the right way - represent the deep brand and company knowledge, keep it authentic, live the passion, ensure the engagement.

Agencies are hired to live and breath the brand, and most do great jobs. For those companies that can't afford an agency, there are people like me that they can turn to for social media help.

Re: In-house vs Outsourcing a Social Media Presence

Interesting perspectives.... As an in-house person responsible for my company's online & social media presence, I am amazed at the number of questions and comments I receive about the brand (very detailed questions). Questions that are easy for me to answer, since I live & breathe this company every day. If our social media activities were outsourced, I feel you lose that deep knowledge/connection with the brand, which will be reflected in the online personality that reflects your organization. Yes, it can be done, but it takes a long time to truly understand the brand enough to fully represent them online.

Re: In-house vs Outsourcing a Social Media Presence

Nice perspective on outsourcing there is not a lot of discussion around outsourcing Internationally I think it will become more of a focus as big brands venture into enterprise social. I like the point you brought out about resourcing in-house by layering responsibilities onto existing employees who may not have the time or the passion for it. Key take aways = relationships, passion, being close enough to the brand to emulate it through human interactions. Oh - and having the time and expertise, why we outsource in the first place.

Re: Protected: Evolution of Dance 2 Starring @interactivem and myself

haha well I didn't have the greatest pic to use... ;-)

Re: Protected: Evolution of Dance 2 Starring @interactivem and myself

LOL Why don't I have a neck?

Re: Bikiniweeksd.com: Day 2 at Stingaree

Hey, Rob!

I thought of it as giving away writing for free, publishing thoughts in public that no one gave a shit about, selling your soul, putting holes in the ozone layer and so on and so forth. Then I read some of these beautiful, amazing and funny blogs out there and it gave me the inspiration to get over myself and maybe write a bit here and there. It keeps a writer's blood flowing and can open the doors to new ideas, by having assholes comment on your thoughts. Sometimes those assholes have some good suggestions. Just weed out the "you're gay" ninjas, and you might see a new perspective or two.
